Integration of a TMF-compatible COM-SOM adapter

Our client, a leading telecommunications provider in Germany, offers a wide range of services for private and business customers. To ensure a seamless and efficient customer experience, the company wanted to improve its processes: A catalog-based and TM Forum (TMF) certified Service Order Management System (SOM) and a non-TMF compliant Customer Order Management Sytsem (COM) should interact smoothly without being customized themselves.

Our solution

The main objective of the project was to ensure communication and smooth data exchange between the TMF-compliant Service Order Management System and the non-TMF-compliant Customer Order Management System. For strategic reasons, it was crucial for the customer that neither system should be adapted.

The challenges

  • Incompatibility between systems: The existing system for managing customer orders was not TMF-compatible, making seamless integration with the desired service order management solution difficult.
  • Strategic constraints: Customization of either system was not an option due to strategic considerations, so a solution had to be found that could bridge the gap without changing the core functionality of either system.

We carried out a comprehensive analysis of the relevant use cases and developed a solution for the integration challenge. The most important steps were

What we have achieved

The result

  • Implementation of the interface and process adapter: BITConEx GmbH developed and implemented a robust interface and process adapter. This adapter was developed to enable communication and data exchange between the TMF-compliant Service Order Management System and the non-TMF-compliant Customer Order Management System.
  • Ensuring TMF compliance: The adapter was carefully designed to ensure that the behavior of the non-TMF compliant customer order management system conforms to TMF standards when connected to the service order management system. This included mapping and translating data and processes to seamlessly meet TMF requirements.
  • Solution without customization of core systems: Crucially, the solution offered by BITConEx GmbH did not require any customization of the sales order management system or the service order management system. Instead, the adapter was used to close the gap and enable interoperability while maintaining the integrity of both systems.
